Backed by generations of maternal consistency and one of the most proven cow families in the Boyd Beef Cattle program, Boyd Abigale 6093 has been selected as the 2027 Angus Foundation Heifer Package.
The March 2026 female, donated by Boyd Beef Cattle, Mays Lick, Kentucky, will sell as the featured lot in the National Angus Bull Sale on Jan. 8, 2027, during Cattlemen's Congress in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Angus Foundation and its mission of supporting education, youth and research initiatives that strengthen the Angus breed.
Representing five generations of maternal genetics, Boyd Abigale 6093 combines proven cow power with the balanced genetic profile demanded by today's seedstock and commercial cattle industries.
"There is really no guesswork," said Charlie Boyd. "She's backed by generations of females that have consistently done their job. When you have that kind of predictability behind a heifer, it gives a buyer a tremendous amount of confidence."
The female traces to the influential Abigale cow family, one of the most established maternal lines within the breeding program. Anchoring the pedigree is Boyd Abigale 0001, a female whose influence continues to shape the herd more than a decade after her own show career. At 16 years of age, Abigale 0001 remains in production and has recorded more than 100 progeny, exemplifying the longevity and productivity the Boyd family strives to develop.
Through her dam, Boyd Abigale 1105, the 2027 Angus Foundation Heifer Package female carries forward generations of maternal excellence while offering some of the newest genetics available from the Abigale lineage.
"She represents the freshest genetics we have while blending the proven side of that cow family," said Blake Boyd. "We think she has a really bright future."
The Boyd family believes the female embodies the breeding philosophy that has guided the operation for decades, combining visual quality, structural soundness and maternal function with the performance and carcass traits required by modern cattlemen.
"We still fully believe in phenotype first, but respect and trust the data," Charlie said. "Since the beginning, we've tried to combine quality phenotype with really good EPDs, but never to the extremes."
That balanced approach is reflected in Abigale 6093 - 2027 Foundation female. Charlie describes her as a complete package, offering the potential to generate replacement females, herd sires and future donors while bringing long-term value to a breeding program.
"I think she's a rock-solid foundation for the buyer," he said. "She'll move the needle for the next program."
Blake agrees, pointing to the female as a representation of both the program's future and the maternal principles on which it was built.
"The female really paints the picture of the program here," Blake said. "The cow comes first while blending phenotype and genotype. The Abigale cow family has always been one of our most consistent families. We believe this female has the ability to make a lasting impact for whoever purchases her."
The opportunity to own Boyd Abigale 6093 will come Friday, Jan. 8, 2027, when she sells as the lead-off lot in the National Angus Bull Sale at Cattlemen's Congress.
The heifer package also includes an Advanced Reproductive Technology Package from Trans Ova Genetics; trucking to the buyer donated by Lathrop Livestock Transportation; and 30 days of mortality insurance donated by Jeanne Conover, Livestock Insurance Agent with Conover Auction Service.
"The Boyd family's decision to donate one of the most promising females from a proven and influential cow family demonstrates their belief in giving back to the breed that has been a part of their family's legacy for generations," said Jaclyn Boester, Angus Foundation executive director. "By contributing genetics that represent decades of thoughtful breeding and selection, they are investing not only in today's Angus industry but also in the next generation of breeders."
Funds generated through the sale will support Angus Foundation programs dedicated to youth leadership, educational opportunities, scholarships and research benefiting Angus breeders nationwide.
